Wow. what a lure - prawnstar
ok. been windy and haven't been able to use the spoons for salmon.
so last sunday we went up the creek and i used a Junior pink prawnstar. caught a 4" grunter.
today i went down to the causeway for 40 mins. 20min either side of sundown.
caught small rock cod 9", flounder 10", big hit-lost fish, flathead 33cm's.
threw them all back as i was primarily after barra and jack.
but i'm really starting to get into these. they are awesome.

Very popular lures.
A lot of people swear by them. I know quite a few blokes who use them exclusively for jacks etc.

Prawnstars are good lures !!! I like the way you can change the weights etc to suit your needs Comes in handy when the wind is up a bit!!

Re: Wow. what a lure - prawnstar
you sure its all the prawnstar ?
may be worth noting the tides & times you just fished & if the water temp has jsut started moving, recent rain after after a dry spell, a change for the better in your own ability. It seems all those fish were bottom third in the water colomn too - what depth of water were you working ? Were your previous lures capable of working that line ?

Re: Wow. what a lure - prawnstar
Like to fish them with no weights - mostly they get hit on the way down. Deeper water add one of the weights - depending current.
Pic is of nice barra from Haycock Island (Hinchinbrook) this time last year, on a junior prawnstar. The fish had all but shut down. We could see them on the sounder. Bounce a prawn on their nose and they can't resist - my mate is now a fan. [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

Re: Wow. what a lure - prawnstar
I've noted that one set of hooks hangs directly underneath the prawn.....is this a snag causing spot to have em? I've heard great things about em too, but each time I look at them, i just get the feeling that I'm going to get snagged on some structure straight away.
And I suppose the little prawnstars catch big fish, jsut like the big prawnstars do?
Cheers,
Hutcho

Re: Wow. what a lure - prawnstar
I'm a big Prawn star fan and one of the reasons is their great snag resistance. I caught over twenty barra one day on them and never lost a lure. As well we've caught good jacks, fingermark, and cod. I was out at Cressbrook Dam with the first one I ever bought and the bass had gone off the bite on plastics but my wife proceded to catch them on the junior model. I like to work them slow with small movements.
I also found that fish "bite" on them just like soft plastics.

Re: Wow. what a lure - prawnstar
Yeh Dicko - shark wanted it more than we did - released this one into the icebox - the other side was pretty ordinary and the fish bled out quick. Looks like we'll be heading up in Feb some time.
The middle hooks tend to pop each cast. I epoxy a piece of plastic tubing through the head and down through the hook eye so the middle hooks don't pull out - cotton buds work a treat for this.
JACKS LOVE 'EM!!

Re: Wow. what a lure - prawnstar
i think it's only the odd lure where the middle hooks comes out too easy. i've got 1 where they all but fall out straight away. but all my others snap in proper.

Re: Wow. what a lure - prawnstar
That's where the tube comes into play. Once it place the hooks don't come out easily. [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]
