Re: Foxy catching lots of Reds

Top story. Good to get an insight into the pro scene. I have an old mate that still has a licence, but is being forced out with similar stories. Were abouts did you mainly fish out of? Good to see another cat owner on the site. Tony.

    Jeezes Foxy
No wonder you can go on extended overnight trips and give us all a severe case of jealousy . That is one great boat you have been left with from the pro days . Lucky bugga .

    Foxy,
By turning to rec. fishing do you mean that you now run charters? Or just fish recreationally yourself? I'm sure your experience would be invaluable as a charter guide (though maybe your grounds are too far out for most charters?).

Where did/do you launch from? Many of the spots where large catches of large mouth's and red emperor traditionally came from have now been closed off Townsville (where I'm at), so I'm scouting out some new ground.

Re: Foxy catching lots of Reds

The areas i fished for reds were out from kurrimine beach just south of innisfail.
Many people would have heard of dunk island, well its next to dunk.
Whats happened with the making of the green zones for much of this area will interest many of you!
Just about every one fishing the wide grounds off this area on nearly a day by day bases would be inspected by the fisheries plane, now if youve ever been piecefully fishing away and been dive bombed by one of these aircraft youll know what a fright they give you! The plane dives down vertually on top of you takes a photo of the boat a gps coordinate, there inspected later to see if you had lines in the water and if so whether your out of a green zone, liciened etc, etc. Now over 20 or more years of this gathering of DATA youd have a complete inventory and complex map of all the fish productive areas for this part of the coast.
NOW heres the interesting part the new green zones just so happen to correspond exactly to the fishing areas in a nice wriggly line that starts and finishes in some of the best and most fished spots! So what im saying is theyve used that data against us. Fortunately not everywhere was taken YET! and its obvious they know what hasnt been. 30% protected reef sounds great but its the better 30% take another say 20% and there'd be vertually no viable ground left, in that case i wonder if we could swap there 50% for ours?
Leo- no mate im not doing charters, just enjoying getting out on the water exploring and challanging myself to catch those xxxooos reds nobbies etc.Im against black marketing so any fish i catch i cant eat i give away, mainly to older people of which i have a huge fan base (lol). You should see how many chrissy cards i get.
Dan- Your not far off the mark mate with that jiggin stick statement. Ive always perfered using the rods, its more fun, so i want to make a few videos of fishing the rich grounds before there off limits and we can look back on what used to be.
Just got to talk greg (reefmaster) into going to innisfail and using his cameras.
catch ya all either on the net or more likely on the water...foxy
