Help on Innisfail area billfish scene

I'll be spending 3 weeks from mid September to early October based in Innisfail. There are plenty of good reefs for bottom fish etc that I have fished before and will be again but I was wondering if anyone had some advise on the area as far billfish go. Thanks.

Fishing the 30 meter line is the go. I fish for Billy's out of Ingham, and its not that far between Ingham and Innisfail. Its a bit late for the smaller ones (around 60lb) but if you are after the bigger blokes, rig some strip baits and troll the current lines around the reefs. 8)

suggest you look up a local club at www.ansa.com.au I am sure they would be able to give you some help.

Just got the good oil for you. Inside of Beaver, Yamacutta, Farquhsan etc. These are a bit more off Kurrimine/Tully etc. Just be careful as I think Beaver is in a green zone. Look for the shoal areas that hold the bait.

FYI. Jim Dalling of Reel Chase just won the Townsville Comp. Must be some bait on Morinda Shoal out East of Bowling Green if you are going through Townsville.

Thanks Smithy but we've already been and gone. Got some good tips from George, the owner of the Flying Fish Point caravan park. We got 5 hookups in one day and landed one very nice sailfish that I posted in the reports section. The best thing about that day was it was the Sunday of the Innisfail game fishing comp and reports from all the boats was that it was very quiet on the billfish scene. We got a tripple hookup on sails outside of gilbey reef just as the boats were coming out on the horizon. George told me he got a call from a reporter at the Cairns Post newspaper who said there were'nt many billfish caught in the comp. Not really surprising given we went down and watched the big boats from Cairns come back in playing dance music flat out and drinking Coronas and Crownies looking like a floating night club. I can't speak for all big boat game fishos but it really looked like total wankers club.
