Has anyone fished the Kowanyama Area lately

I used to fish the Kowanyama area in the gulf of Carpentaria every year unitl about 6 years ago. We used to fish in the Mitchell River and Copely. I am wondering if anyone has been there recently if so is it still unreal?

wasn't there a shit fight between the locals and the govt about managing the fishing/visitors to the area. i think i read in either qfm or bnb that they closed the area to non locals. they were negotioting to have it opened but didn't look promising

Is it ever dazza, I first went there when I was 12 this big muscly bloke clled John took us there. Caught 16 barra off the front of the campsite in about 30 minutes. They did close it off to non locals as there are already a lot of non local restrictions on creeks like the south mitchell.

Does anyone know if it is still closed. I think they closed it because they found a big dope crop up there plus all the violence.

However it is still I belive the best fishing area in Australia however we are leaving WA out of this because that is a whole different ball ame
