I have question regarding the legallity of netting with another type of net to catch prawns, and perhaps it should warrant a separate posting.
In Queensland I have always used a cast net, but since I have been overseas and have been north sea shrimp fishing (in a mud gutter on the runout tide) with a harness pulled sledge net, I am wondering if such a thing is legal here in Queensland?
This type of net was very successful - we netted tens of kilos of shrimp (north sea crabben), very quickly. This was then sorted through with other gear. We ended up with ~40 kilo of shrimp using 4 of these sleds for around 2 hours of work.
I have included a hand drawn picture of the net. It measured about 1.40 m wide, made of stainless steel metal. Not higher than 25cm for the mouth, with a ~8 mm(?) mesh and catch pocket at the back. The weight of the mouth ensured that the sleds sat on the bottom. A long line from the harness to the sled ensured enough water had passed since walking through.
would something like this be permissible?
BTW it was very odd seeing sea lions popping their head up and watching you . Don't think it's a croc territory thing to do.
