    Who Uses Buoy Weather website?

Like most, I cancelled fishing this weekend due to the forecast, only to see it turn out completely different. I notice that the Morton Bay prediction for Saturday at this minute is still saying 20-30kn and very big seas.

Buoy Weather had today as being,,, well pretty much what it ended up being. But not knowing much about how they come up with their predictions, I figured they must just be wrong.

So score one for Buoyweather and nill for BOM.

But I have come across the reverse.

I know Rob uses it a lot. Does anyone else, and can you add any background info to assist in deciding to rely on the predictions.

I consult both and hope that the better one of the two forecasts comes true Buoyweather is winning lately for mine... just wish you didn't have to become a paying member to access the rest of the site e.g. long range (7 day) forecasts

I use the weather buoy site because there is one right out where we fish so I can get a real accurate reading. I know a lot of people use it up here because it is situtaed right at a spot where it is always the roughest, (about 2 km of Holbourne Island) so if the weather is okay there then you can ghet to the reek no worries.

Most guys I know who use it swwear by it.

I use the buoyweather site and have for a few years. I fish round Jervis Bay. The BOM forecasts are usually for the 'Illawarra region' so they have to cover a large area of coast. If they give the wind, once again the area covered is large. The online weather stations which give an actual or recent wind reading are either 25 miles south or a similar distance north. The automatic weather stations that are actually on the Bay, BOM refuses to put on the web.

If the wind is up I can't launch or it spoils my fishing. I usually have to drive for 25 minutes to find out, where I stay is sheltered and gives a misleading picture of wind conditions.

One of the Buoweather.com sites is within a few miles of where I fish and so far has been very accurate.
When I compared Bouyweather.com predictions with subsequent BOM records of the winds from the nearest automatic weather station, for a period of 2 weeks, it left the BOM forecasts for dead.

Still recall the great fishing session in 'painted ship upon a painted ocean' conditions when BOM had a gale warning out for the JB area. The expected front fizzled out somewhere in Bass Strait.
If BOM put the actual wind readings from the Point Perpendicular weather station on the web it would help anyone launching in the Bay, but as I said earlier, they won't. When I asked them to, with list of good reasons, they politely implied that I could go and have sexual intercourse with my hiking footwear.

I use buoyweather in conjunction with BOM and my own observations of the charts. Generally, drawing conclusions from these three gives you a fair idea of how it's going to be. A good look outside helps too.
