Thread: Shore fishing in Sydney

    Re: Shore fishing in Sydney

In this forum people DO pass on good fishing spots. I see nothing wrong with any of the spots mentioned. I grew up in Liverpool, NSW and am quite familiar with the spots mentioned. If you really want to get into fishing in and around Sydney, join a local fishing club. Shore based spots range from the lower reaches of the Parramatta river, anywhere along the Georges river, too many spots around Sydney harbour to mention, many spots around Middle Harbour, hundreds of spots around Port Hacking, The whole foreshore of Botany Bay....but to fish any of them successfully you need to study tides, times, structure, target species, bait gathering, techniques, weather conditions and many other factors. If you are a 'buy a packet of prawns and throw a line in' fisherman....then it is just like buying a lottery ticket, sometimes you catch something, but most times you dont.

The waters around Sydney are by no means "fished out". But the fish are harder to catch due to increased angling pressure and degredation of water quality. Which means that the successful fisherman has to be smarter when approaching his target species. There are some great books on fishing around Sydney, and if you can get hold of any that have articles or advice by Garry Brown and/or Craig McGill, they would be well worth reading.

    Cheers Greg

PS....most (not all) of the fishos on this thread are Qld based, so dont expect a myriad of replies, but a few of us can point you in the right direction.

I cant answer that question, But I have found it frustrating since being here on the peninsula that trading hours in a number of businesses seem to be 'flexible'. Lets not be reading anything into it or speculating, as has happened unfairly on a number of threads. I had been wondering (to myself) about another business (not in this industry) that was closed for a week with no signs up....It turned out there had been two sudden deaths in the family and they had more important things to attend to. Meanwhile lets keep this out of this thread, and concentrate on helping our friend find fishing spots around Sydney. PM me to talk further about it.

    Cheers
    Greg
