Catching Slimies - live bait Bribie to Moreton

    Hi All,

We are about to venture out for Marlin around the cape. Being realtively new to the area I am looking for spots to catch live bait either slimies or yakkas.

We leave from Bribie so any spot x's you are willing to give up between Bribie and the Cape would be appreciated.

Mate most of the beacons off the n/west corner of moreton hold yakkas or slimies M1-2-3-4 S1 or Nw 12, or their are bait balls holding not far off them.

internut, the bills out off the trench, hutchies and the cape were not feeding on any bait balls yesterday. livebait would have been useless for anything other than switchbaiting. we didnt catch two fish in any one spot other than double hookups. go lures, skip and swim baits

Thanks MagicPudding. Was intending to wash a few lures and see how we go. Some of the reports coming in seem to be doing ok with lures.

I have had ocassions b4 where we found bills working the bait but did not have any livies on board and could not jig any up so ended up with zilch even though we could see the sails and marlin working the bait.

Been about 12 years since I rigged baits so will have to touch up my skills in that area.

    Thanks for your reply.

I will post a report when we get back in, let everyone know how we got on. Hopefully with some pics

speaking about brushing up on bait-rigging skills, would you happen to know any good web sites that can help in that regard?

Sorry Jono I dont off hand. If you have a Sports Fishing club nearby they often have tutorial nights with speakers etc. Or just wonder in to a club on club night and you should find someone will be willing to show you the pointers.

As for our bill trip on Thurs. Blew 20-25 knots all day. We fished the Trench (only boat there) as it was a little shelterd but even in a 23 footer it was very uncomfortable and only managed one brief hookup on a black and a couple of small yellowfin.

Only heard of one other boat trolling outside the cape and I believe they had 9 shots but we poked our nose out that way a couple of times and turned back. Dont like copping waves over the front.
