    Near Misses

Just started getting in to flicking lures around, my main problem is that I am getting swiped and bumped but the fish just aren,t taking the next step and eating my lure. Is this a technique issue perhaps? Am I retreiving too slowly maybe? Would appreciate any suggestions. Cheers John

Maybe your treble is blunt? I usualy go down a size on the tail treble and sometimes go up a size on the body. It depends how it changes the action on the lure. They must be sharp though, alot of fish are hooked around the face not in the mouth this, I believe is because the fish pulls out of the strike at the last minute, when they realise its not a real fish.
In japan we fish up to 8 hours for 1 or 2 strikes, so hook quality is of high importance. Ive been changing the trebles on my floating minnows with Top shelf trebles and throwing the new trebles sold with the lure. Tackle companies use cheaper hooks on their lures as it brings down costs. Dont worry too much about retrieval rate if your getting the strikes you doing it right. The foward movement of the lure and the fishes speed on strike should be enough to set the hook. Look at the trebles first.
    Good Luck

Why is it called a 'near miss'

If you nearly miss something, don't you hit it.
