snapper on jigs
Did any one read the article in salt water fishing last edition? It’s about jigging for snapper and other types of fish over off shore reefs. It basically said use a 6/0 hook dressed with red blues and some flashing materials and a small glow bead, a bottom bashing rig, bounce it up and down a few times. There was more to the article than this but I was wondering if anyone has tried it or knows of it as a productive technique because the only jigging I know of that deep is big lumps of metal for kingies
Cheers,

Kiwi's use these rigs heaps. I think they call them ledger rigs. In all the tackle shops over there - black magic brand from memory. I used them a couple of years back when I was there "working" and caught fish from rubble in about 40m of water. Also caught a good snapper on a chrome slug also.

Re: snapper on jigs
I fluked a snapper jigging a 40g halco twisty. Well actually, I just cast into the burley trail behind the boat when my wife needed me to gaff her mack beside the boat. When returning to my rod, with the lure now deep under the boat, I noticed the pressure on the line. Pulled up a decent 50cm snapper. Don't know if it grabbed it on the way down or from the boat rocking in the swells and giving the lure action off the bottom. Bloody thing is I've tryed many times and still can't seem to get another snapper on metal lures. Guess it just was my original skills used on the day.
