just wondering if any 1 has got any good fish latley in the maroochy river as me and a mate are staying in his unit there this friday till monday and were hoping for some good fishin action. any reports , tips etc would be very good.
as i dont go there often i dont no many places around there and we will be land based and maybe might hire a boat from the swan boat hire. and spots around the boat hire or closer to the mouth of the river would be great.

Landbased Maroochy can be plenty of fun,best at night round the mouth or motorway bridge livebait best option if unable get some fresh mullet from the guys at Swan.If you`re hiring a tinny get up round the mouth of petrie crk and also try round the channel markers further up near Bli Bli.

Pretty well anything, Bream, Trevors, jew and the occasional odd stuff.
There may not be much happening with the amount of wind about.
Does anyone else find strong wind shuts the bite down?
Been on the river the last two days, got plenty of live bait (Poddy's and herring) North East side of the bridge and the little Island at the mouth of the Eudlo creek. Plenty of big bites in the code hole at the turn of the tide, but catch any fish, well ummm, I , Ummm, I, you see the, ummmmmmmm . Can I blame the wind too ?
gonna try the suggestions above on Friday with my old man, instead of concentrating on the one spot.

Around the motorway bridge on high tide is aroun 9-9.5m in certain parts. Deep water for an eustary, adn a good place for fish. they are there, but with these strong SE winds around, i'd say they've all shut down for the moment. Best to wait until calmer weather. But if you're up this weekend, get up bright and early and you may get a window of opportunity to fish. If you hire a tinnie from Swan, i'd get up some of the creeks etc past the bridge out of the wind.

Why not go out to the Barwon Banks on a charter. Only $90 for half day. Gaurnteed some action and a feed of fish.
We went out before Christmas and there were plenty of big snapper, sea perch, few red emporers.
Will do it agin the next time we are up that way.

brissybass i fish Maroochydore area quite often as i am lucky enough to have an Aunt with a waterside property, like the others have said the motorway bridge around he cod hole is a good spot to try with livies, but in general most of the river seems to hold nice fish, just try to find a spot that not every man and his dog goes to and u should do ok, i have found personally that night time is better than day and im not sure if your into them but soft plastics have served me very well up there, i say "up there" because i live in Brisbane, went last week and caught a nice trevally a flathead that went 63cm and some nice bream.

Yes guarranteed action and to feed the fish. I've been diving off old woman island in a 3m swell from a large shark cat. The only fish I saw was brained by the anchor as it tumbled a boulder over and dragged chain severly. We aborted the dive after that.Originally Posted by FLATHEAD1
