    Whiting fishing

I am just starting out Whiting fishing on a long beach location and am looking for information on the best setup. e.g. Bait, hooks, line, rod, leader length, time of day, tides. In other words a full lesson!!

i just use a 9 foot rod quite whippy.live yabbies for bait, long shank hook. i think the alvey reels are the best for whiting fishing becuase when your winding in you can feel every bite if the fish does bite it. not like a spinning reel when your winding in its harder to feel the bites. i find that quite early in the morning and late afternoon if the best fishing time. with the line dont go heavy. i use 8lb and for the leader i use about 40cm. hope that helps.

Thanks for that. I have the 10Ft rod and will find the live yabbies and try it over the weekend in the early morning or evening.

I find they nibble and then bite. People have a tendency to feel them nibble and then pull up the reel with nothing on the end. Often said the best fisher of whiting is the pole set rod, let the whipiness of the rod catch the fish. that said, feel the nibble, don't move till the nibble becomes a swallow, then gently pull up as the mouth is closed and fish swims off - though it is not as if the whiting is stationay nibbling, all happnes quite quickly. but if you're too quick you will miss the best flesh in beer batter there is.
