    Bar marks

    Hello all,

I was wondering if anybody has the bar marks for both noosa and the breaksea spit on fraser island, I am looking at going some different places for a change.

    Thanks

    Re: Bar marks

At both those places the channels are constantly moving so it can be more dangerous going by gps. For noosa, you're better off having a look from the rock wall first to see where the channel is and the lines which boats are taking to cross it. For breaksea spit, its a LOOOOONG way away from civilisation, so local knowledge is best. There's numerous passages all the way up the spit so again you're best to look at it first hand. PM smithy if you want more info on breaksea.

    Re: Bar marks

like magicpudding said the noosa bar is forever chaning so GPS marks aren't the greatest. however if you head into davos bait and tackle at noosaville and then ask them for some information about crossing the bar. they have some low altitude aerial photos of the bar at the low tides and it shows the channels in it quite well.

here is an aerial photo from september 2004

    hope this helps
    cheers phil

The 4 mile on Breaksea was on the same GPS marks for a couple of years. For the last 14-18 months it has changed so I wouldn't like to give them to anyone. The 13 mile is OK so PM if you want them. What size boat have you got? It is a long way. That is 13 mile from the tip of Fraser just to get across the bar let alone any fishing spots and the haul across Hervey Bay to start with.
