Re: Bream On Plastics
Favourite plastic for Bream, Easy , Berkley Dropshots 3" in pearl watermelon colouration. Run a 2 or 3kg fireline on a small high ballbearing balanced spin reel eg. Shimano Stradic 1000 FH. Next is the rod, it has to be fast action around 6'6 to 7'6 and high modulous graphite in construction. The tip of the rod should be able to be twitched and the soft plastic will instantly come to life. I run a Daiwa Heartland IM6 which is 2-3kg and a very good rod for the price ($140 or so) Run a fluorocarbo leader around 6lb or 8lb. This should be around 50cm in length and attach to the end a jighead around 1/16 oz and 1/0 or 2/0 . The weight of the jighead will change according to the current conditions but as everyone says the lighter the weight the less spooked the fish will be. The action, well cast near some structure and let the lure drift under the pontoon or jetty and get as close to the bottom before being hung up on a rock/structure. 3 or 4 quickbut small jigs with the tip of your rod then slowly (SLOWLY) retrieve the slack on the line and maybe 1/2 or 1/4 a turn of the tight line. then repeat all the way to the boat. I believe the close to the bottom section of water you are for the longest time the better the chance you will have of getting a fish. You will be surprised when a fish hits at the boat. Anymore help required give me a pm or let us know in this forum.
