eddy's WASP +12 in blue & sliver works as well in 3m as it does in 3in and it can be cranked dead slow and still holds it's depth
Stick with the softies...........
Agree with Hutcho ..........Squidgees in Gary Glitter and Gold
Recently spent 2 weeks with the tinlids at Caloundra, we averaged 50 flattie a week......... (PS we only kept a couple)

Seems that plenty work mate.
I haven't found em that fussy to tell the truth.
If it is moving past em they will swallow it.
I have done really well on the 3" atomic grub in the brown crawdad. I've also started using the 3" & 4" terminator snapbacks jerkbait in the shrimp colour. I've noticed the snapbacks last alot longer and don't get torn up like other plastics.
Kokoda prawns -> prawnstar when they pop on prawns at night. But kokoda gets damaged very quickly.
and yes they will take things pretty big. How about a 45-50cm flattie on a rapala 13 cm jointed.

I think you've hit the nail on the head there mate. I actually would like to know which lures work for bream, as they seem a bit more fussy, i don't know how many times ive had bream follow my lure the whole way back to the boat them turn round swim back to the snag, next cast same fish follow it out. Which hard bodies work? and how do you guys give plastics action when chasing bream? (questions specially aimed at Tim)Originally Posted by ba229
I've recently just started targeting bream on lures and have found smaller plastics in the 2"-3" works best with a slow slow retrieve. Anything that looks like a turd works well in my experience My fav lure for bream would have to be 3" bass minnow in smelt. I'm yet to get one on a hardbody but have been told that the ecogear sx40/48 are the go.

See attached pic. Although an EP is shown, we nailed plenty of bream the same day.
My brother was using this little green floating hard body, I was using a similar yellowish one but it was a sinking lure. The green seemed better on the day for both EP and bream.
Lob the floating lure right on top of the snag and give it a couple of turns retrieve and then stop and let it float. Then work it with at short (approx 6 inch) twitch and stop (more stop than twitch). Gotta be using braid for this to get the lure to work immediately you twitch it. The bream will often come for a look, go and return to the snag. Another little twitch, and he comes steaming back out. It was often the 3rd or 4th time he came out of the snag that he nailed it. Often also it was the second or third cast in the snag before they got excited enough to actually hit it rather than follow. Best results were if you could time a second twitch just as the fish was heading out for a look at the lure.
I had more trouble leaving my sinking lure in the strike zone coz it kept sinking toward the submerged sticks and I'd have to keep retrieving to avoid getting snagged. I'd get a lot of follows, often as you said right to the boat, but they seemed happier actually hitting it nearer the snag.
Jinx,
As for the original question of the flathead lure, we had worked these lures (bouncing them right along the bottom) through an area near a cane drain with no hits. I changed to a 2inch gold halco hard body with rattle and nailed 2 flathead in 2 casts from the same spot.

And a bream on the yellow hard bodied sinking lure.
I think bream are really into the power baits as just this morning i took a trip to the frypan (Noosa) in my little tinny and got a 46cm bream on a berkley dropshot 3" minnow i was anxiouse to try them out after watching that tournament fishing show with tim morgan and all them fellas and they seemed to work best in about a metre of water with ultralight jig heads and a slow steady retreive kept about 20cm off the bottom.
Nathan
i also got a couple on a surebite crawfish hardbodied lure
Go the Lively Lures!! - pink micros/minis awsome action. Although the best big 'ole girl I ever got was on a 5" squid jig in about 3' of water at the pin (about 1100mm). She hit the jig and it wedged lengthways in her mouth jamming it wide open, so she floated to the surface and came in without a fight. She wasn't even pinned- Just as well because it was on a squid outfit - true story
nil carborundum illegitimi
My top 3 lizard lures would be:
(1) Attack in gold with black tiger stripes
(2) Micro min in red & black
(3) DK lure 75cm in Elton John

For my the "Jacksnack" made by C Lures does the trick. Landed a nice 77 flatty as well as many smaller. Just leave some lizards in the water for me to catch!
