live bait is allways beter use one of these when you troll you can get them at www.turborattler.com
Depends what you want. If you just want a feed of pan sized reefies, then stick with the pillies and squid. If you want to target better sized fish, float line the freshest baits you can get on the lightest line you can get away with. A live bait close to the bottom or under a balloon will always attract the larger fish, both pelagic and demersal. Best live baits in SEQ are slimies and yakkas.

Does anyone have any more comments
Heres a way to keep your options open. We usually fish with 2 dropper paternoster rigs on 30 pound line. If we were going to an area where bigger fish are on the cards (or just for the hell of it) we would simply upsize one of the hooks (usually the top one) and wack a live bait on that and keep the other hook for bait fishing. It takes a little practise to tell the difference between the livie and something eating the bottom bait (especially if its the livie who's about to be eaten) but you get the feel pretty quick, especially if you are using braid.
Hope this helps
Mate, either float a Pillie out back of your Boat when your on the Anchor or slow drift with about foot ta foot n a halfe of wire end of your ganged hooks....OOOooorrrrrrr a live Baldy Bream on the end of a line when your on the Pick....Mackeral luv em both ..
Remember, nuthin fancy (KISS, Keep it simple stupid)(No offence ey, just a small translation case ya havent heard the term before)..
Quickest n best way to catchin a good feed without too much confusion ..
Cheers
"Baldy Bream?" naw no relation lol
Gday
as the others have said depends on what you want to target.
I dont like using livies on the reef for one reason and that is Big Cod love livies and this fish really should be left alone as there eating qaulities are not that good when big and its a well knowing fact that big cod make a reef system healthy making other fish hang around these areas. Most big Cod can not be released because of the swim bladder problems unless your in very shallow water (15mtrs and under)
If your chasing big Amberjack, kingys, trevally then livies are the way to go.
Reef fish will eat anything put in front of them and all the big Red Emperor we have caught have been on dead baits.
Cheers Greg
