    Re: catching sharks

Try the bayside jetties mate, up around the Redcliffe peninsula, the mouth of the Brisbane river(Luggage Point) and there may even be a jetty or two on the southside of town. You should be able to catch one along the river banks and particularly around the creek mouths of the brissy river. Live baits will be your best bait for the river and if you intend fishing the jetties, get yourself a whole mullet from a seafood shop and try it. Fishing the river you'll encounter a lot of small whaler sharks(in the 5-10 kg range) and venturing onto the jetties you may encounter something a little larger(in the 40-60kg range), so choose your gear accordingly. Having said this, very substantial fish have a tendency to turn up when you least expect them. Good luck!

This might be another one of those dumarse questions - but what do you do with a shark that size now that you've killed it?

    Re: catching sharks

    Hi Tony,

The Tiger shark was not killed. In fact, we managed to roll it into deep enough water to be successfully released. Took the best part of 20mins before she swam off, a truly magnificent site!

It was caught from the beach and measured in at 13,6ft. Estimated weight would be between 450 – 550kg. Took a 40lb stingray for bait, and was fought using a Tiagra 80w and custom sabre 37kg, for the best part of an hour and a half. Also released a 9” Great Hammer, a 6ft and 8ft whaler the same night.

    Regards,
    Simon Harmon

yeh I'm with MM - that's amazing !! really glad you were able to release it.

Now I'm trying to imagine the thrill of standing in waist deep water walking the fish along to get the water flowing over its gills

    Re: catching sharks

At least you did release it, good work, can't say I'd be too keen to walk him in the water. Better than some people who would just leave it up on the bank. Sounds like it would have been one hell of a night.

if you wanna go on a trip last turtle season me and my dad pulled in a 21ft tiger shark at sandy cape(Fraser) we got it on cable that we chucked out with a rope leader and a live tailorfor bait and ended up hookin it up to the winch on the truck after about 15 mins we got sick of trying to pull it after it pulled us in the water about 20 times. ill try and dig up some of the old pics
