    Locating live bait off Mooloolaba

    Fellow Fishers,
Howdy, I'm looking for tips on finding live bait spots in fairly close to Mooloolaba?
I am a bit limited by my 4.6M tinnie, but on a good day have run safely to Murphys reef (and back...) [smiley=2thumbsup.gif].
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I fish out of a 4.5 m centre console regularly from Mooloolaba. You'll get alot further than Murphies on a good day. The marks I have which hold bait consistently are 5-8 nm from Mooloolaba. There are also some other spots closer in worth checking out that sometimes hold bait. Pays to know a few so you have some options. Always leave your sounder and GPS on when travelling, and log bait whenever you see it. If it is there next time you pass, keep the mark. Here's the clue - look for bait both North and South in 10-14 m of water. Yakkas and slimies usually hold up in some kind of structure, but you can't always determine what that is.

The NW fairway buoy at Caloundra almost always holds bait, but it is mainly rubbish with a few yakkas, and the yakkas are often small.

    Hope this helps,

    Jeremy

Tim- the Yakkas often come right up close to Mooloolaba rock wall- try out about 500m off the tip of point cartwright...

yes, there are a few yakkas and plenty of pike in the bay just to the North of the walls. Use some burley to bring them around.

I find that most of the bait I locate on the sounder just off Pt Cartwright must be whitebait or similar because they don't take jigs.
