Where are the Spotties this year?!

If my memory serves me right (and often it doesn't) by this time of January last year, and the year before, Moreton Bay was full of spotty mackerel. I can remember reading lots of reports of blokes bagging out in an hour or less, schools of fish everywhere, fish banging into the side of boats because there were so many in the water, etc, etc. I also experience these conditions and thought yipee this will be even better next year.

This year i have only seen a couple of reports of spotties being caught and the schools have been pretty skittish.

I have had three trips out from Bribie in the last few weeks to the main shipping channels, spitfire channel and the usual becons looking for spotties and have not seen any. Two of these trips were overnighters so we were there at the prime times of dusk and dawn. Still nothing! Yet the bait seems to be around because of the schools of mack tuna that are evident.

Any body got any theories about where the spotties are this year and why they haven't come into the bay yet?

Something this year that I have never seen before.
Over the last few weeks there has been a stack of small (4-7inch) spotties and also spanish, hanging in the creek at 1770.
People are getting them while bait jigging!
    A good sign me thinks!

They seem to have staye around a while up here to with plenty of spotties and spanish caught on the weekend in close. My old man told me they were thick at woodgate a while ago.

It does indeed seem that the Spotties missed the turn-off on their journey South. Maybe we need to erect bigger signs.

Maybe they are slow this year, I am still hoping to get on to some in the Northern Bay this year. Last year there were reports of people gaffing them straight out of the water at Mooloolaba, no line. Still getting here I hope.

I was out there today- nothin.
roamed from behind green accross to moreton and back a few times, 4 beacons , measured mile markers(got 1 doggie for my effort)
there were are few birds around, but none were hittin the water, i saw 1 boil(if you could it that) near shark spit.
Looks like it going to be a trip to either coasts if I want 1 >

Guys, persist with the bay if you must but the word is still f#$% all in the bay, try any of the closer reefs if you want more of a chance.
