    trolling  for spaniards

I was just wandering if you need to use wire trace when trolling halcos for Spanish mackerel and also what speed should we troll at?

Oh and also if any one has had more success on any other different kind of lure could you please let me know?

Any advice would be much appreciated

    Cheers Michael

Wire will def. save you some lures but after paying all the petrol and time to get out I stick to 120lb+ Jinkai. Increases catch rate but also bite offs. 6-8 knots seems to work well but I usually leave a skirt in the spread so as fast as bibbed lures still swim properly. Even better than lures is if you can get onto a couple of small live tuna. Troll slow past hotspots and hang on. Their jellybeans.

You will definetly need wire or nylon. Those already made up traces are crap and often break or the clips come undone on big fish. I use nylon and the old twist and burn effect works nicely. You will catch less though as they shy away from the wire and nylon sometimes.

I normally use single strand wire. It is pretty thin and hard to see. You can be lucky on mono like when I picked up a 20kg one on a single 5/0 and 40lb mono trace.
