Hey, i've been fishing at currumbin for years with bait and caught heaps there. Lately i've caught the sp craze and haven't been able to land a thing at currumbin on em. I've had a couple of bites and a few tails lost, but hardly anything compared to other places i've used them. Does anyone else catch fish on plastics there? like i know it's possible, but to consistantly get fish on plastics there is something i've yet to witness. Any tips for using them at currumbin would be more than welcome.
Mate if you know the fish are there, maybe try a few diff tails or a lighter jig head. I have found that specific ones work better in different areas of the river, for example i like the atomic fat grubs for deeper sections, and for fishing the flats maybe a minnow like a berkley. If you have been catching them in a location on bait over a period of time, i cannot see why they wouldnt take to a plastic. I have had a few throws around currumbin but at this time of year the flathead are quieter than normal, try some deeper areas or good holes / eddies in the river. Maybe some creek outlets on the start of the run out
A mate of mine loves chasing Bream on SP's - he walks the bank of Laguna Lake casting and slowly retrieving. Best SP for Bream is 3 inch Berkley Dropshot, Blue Pearl or Watermelon in colour.
We have also got them around the Highway and M1 bridge pylons. You can cast from the old railway bridge to the M1 pylons if you are land-based, or if you have a boat try the pylons around the first bridge (GC Hway).
Also call in and see Brad Smith at the Boatshed - he is a top bloke who will gladly give you a few tips. His tackle prices are also very reasonable.
