I took my kids out on a charter on 'hooker1 gold coast charters', and it wqs stupid!... the deckies were fishing off the side, and wasting space we had paid for! And it was a perfect day, no wind or swell, but they didn't take us out far at all! NEVER USE THIS CHARTER!!!
deckies fishn is the norm on most, reef fishn wider most days at the moment waste of time with strong currents, a lot of the best fishing has been inshore lately anyway.
If i paid for a charter and the deckies hung a line over the side whilst i was not catching fish i would tell them to get the hell out of it !!!!
No problem if there is only a few onboard , plenty of room and plenty of fish ....bring em all out i say ....but i believe they need to work their keep .
As for not catching any ...thems the breaks !!!
Last charter i went on was takling the lads from our office out for a day on ' Dominator ' off scarborough ..
I only got a dirty Mack tuna ...( but lost a good black )
other then that we scored 2 blacks , a sail , 2 spanish , 3 cobes , a nice wahoo , one quality snapper ( on a slow trolled livey ...WHAT THE ?? ) and a few vermin ....but that is about as good a day you can get on the water let alone a chartered boat !
Most charters are not worth the money. You can pay from about $100 to $160 dollars for a day. Pretty hard to take home $160 worth of fish and then get around to eating it all. I definately would not be happy with the deckies fishing. Then again they would probably not be happy if they knew I mark some of their spots on the handheld GPS in my pocket either.
Sometimes the deckies will fish as they realise you and the kids may be doing it tough and they will fish themselves and donate their catch to you, especially if it is really slow.-Beatle.
Do the maths before you bitch about the cost. Whats a charter boat worth. lets say $3ooK for arguments sake. What would $300 k produce invested fora year. Now pay some wages. Two deckies Plus, super, holiday pay, plus insurance. Now pay a skipper and add in the same on-costs . Now gear, bait, fuel. now a bit of profit for the poor old owner . Suddenly this is starting to look like avery expensive operation to run.
what about the cost of repairs & maintenance.
Before you bitch have a think what small business owners are up for you might find $200 is cheap
Cheers
