carry one for sure... yes they can make a big difference for fishing mainly when wind is the major drift factor, if a currents on they dont make a big difference for me.
i have had the odd time when wind and current was from diffrent directions and the sea anchor (drift anochor, sea sock and all them other names) had as at pretty much a stand still
Yep, as everyone has suggested they are worth the investment. They make a big difference when the wind is up.
Also a good safety addition. If you deploy it from the bow they hold you into the weather and pull you through the waves if you were ever caught out in really nasty conditions without power. I have two sea anchors on board
I'm thinking of getting one guys, I don't like te idea of tying off to the stern of the boat, just another thing for fish to wrap you around. How much rope do you normally let out in avergage weather?
rope length really depends on current, conditions, wind etc etc etc. Just put out enough to hold the boat still. It doesnt bother us stern tied, they sink down a metre or so, and if no current sinks completely underneath. Very handy in shallows/dams as well from a tinny tie off bow & stern will hold still in any wind
