Bribie Question + unknown fish Q

Hey guys went for a night fish last night in the bribie passage near the bridge for the first time and have a few questions. There were baitfish EVERYWHERE probably over a 500-1000 metre area there was bait schools skipping all over the surface everywhere being chased by god knows what ( because I never got a frikkin bite all night ) so we decided to start cast netting to atleast get some bait to freeze for the next trip and a got a heap of good sized gar and a heap of some fish I have never seen (pictured) so can someone please shed some light on it , also they were in HUGE numbers the cast net could'nt hit the water without getting alteast 5 in it . Anyway upside is we also got 40+ sandies out of only 4 pots . Tried 3 diff baits fishing with no bites pillies, whitebait and fresh and live gar . Anyone have any suggestions on better bait choices for the passage please ?

    thanks

The ones we were getting in the net were about 20-30 centimetres , do they get much larger ? They were so thick we could'nt have missed them with the casty even if we tried.

You'll find this hard to believe but last time I went fishin under the Bribie Bridge, my missus was using LBD's (cheerio's) and caught two bream around 30 cm. I caught nothing but an ear bashing for weeks cause I told her she was wasting good food.

    How's that?
