    Re: Queenies?

Carlos, usually a few hang out on the boardwalk at caloundra, bloke lost 4 the weekend before Easter. At Dickys Beach same period the herring were moving up the beach and the queenies (and other fish) were harassing them. One bloke was using his cast net in the surf and then putting live herring on. He lost a couple of queenies, they even do aerial acrobatics in the surf. I know when Clarks drag the nets when the mullet are running they always seem to get the odd queenie or two amongst them.

    Cheers Sam

Nath, 2 different blokes. My folks live up there so I like to go for walks and see what's happening. It was a young guy on the boardwalk and he was using slugs. I think the weight of the slugs aloowed the fish to throw them while jumping. The other guy was a local and knew what he was doing, just unlucky as it appeared that the queenies only had the gape of the hook in their mouths and when they realised something was wrong they just let go. He brought in a couple of herring which were bitten off behind the hooks.

I had choice rump for tea that night also.

    Re: Queenies?

You will catch queenies all up and down the queensland coast. They use to be major pest but are one of the worst cases for by catch in nets. Have seen thousands dead on the bank in the gulf from netting. Bit if a shame though only good for sport.
