The bait don't get any bigger than the yakkas on Palmy reef during summer. They are monsters.
Between 12 - 16m will usually see you with heaps, even if you don't use berly.
You could also try Kirra reef, though the reef is all but gone now or the sand pumping jetty at Tweed. Slimys on all the bait reefs for the last month or so.
Hi all,i have been veiwing the site for some time now and rate it highly.I live and fish in the port hacking which is a great waterway to fish,I have been using sp's for years and i think its great every one is starting to get into it.Anyway the reason i am writing is i wonder if any one can give me some info on live bait on the gold coast.I visit a mate up there every couple of months and we have trouble locating good quality live bait.We do manage to get some yakkas on a little patch of reef just inside palm beach reef but in the warmer months they are very finiky.I still am yet to see any slimies which is what i am really after so any info from some of the locals would be greatly appreciated. We mainly fish around palmy and the reefs just wide of cook island because we are limited in the size of our boat.We have caught some nice cobia on lures and my mate has caught some reasonable kingies but i know we will catch that elusive monter fish if we had more quality live bait.Cheers to anyone who can be of service.
