offshore with balloons?
I'm just wondering how to rig up a live or dead bait on the balloon rig
i will be using it while i am bottom bashing.
the things i want to know are as folows:
1. What lb trace should i use?
2. What lenght trace should i use?
3. In what conditions should i do this type of fishing?
4. When is the best time to do this type of fishing?
well that just about covers it and if there is any other info that you think would be usefull please tell me.
thanks in advance.
cheers Michael

Re: offshore with balloons?
I wouldn't bother with a balloon unless using livies, with dead baits just float down or tiny lead if current running and try cutting bottom 1/2 of tailfin on livies to ensure it doesnt use the balloon for cover. A small rattle float is an environmentally friendly option.
lb trace depends on what your chasing (40lb fine for most that arnt in the tooth gang, then try 120lb min or wire if NEEDED)
try a min of 1mt although I run 1.5mt
throw a little glow stick in the balloon if fishin night
points 3&4 can be answered in many different ways, when conditions and times are right for the surface predetors, fish it.
Good luck

Re: offshore with balloons?
yeh i agree with jay
personlay i wouldn't waist my time with ballons or foam both are as bad as each other in the marine enovronment
either buy the normal floats or just what i do and put the livies out by them selfs trust me if the fish are around they will find the livie no matter of where it is trying to hide or how deep or shallow it trys
i have had tuna and other take the livies on surface and down in the depths and even go under the boat to get one

Re: offshore with balloons?
dont bother with balloons if bottom bashing, balloons are used to keep the bait at a certain depth just below the surface. Not on the bottom.......hope that helps
