    Rainbow Channel spot

Last time I was over around Myora way I did a little exploring and noticed a deep hole inside the Wanga Wallen Bank over near some oyster leases. Has anyone fished this area or heard of anything much being caught? It looks like a reasonable spot to escape the long weekend crowds. Deep water and sharp dropoffs look very fishy and might be worth soaking a big livie at night. Any info appreciated.
    Thanks

That area from myora north to wanga wallen holds some nice sized parrot as well. the best parrot (Grass Tusk fish) I have seen to come from myora was 30lbs. And at that size needs some pretty strong gear to keep it up off the bottom. This area is quite deep in parts around 15m (deep for the bay) and the tide rushes through. Try fishing the slower tides (least tidal variations) and leading up to low or high tide. Near the oyster lease at wanga wallen are plenty of yabbie banks. I have seen mass schools of whiting near this spot so just on the edge of the drop off is worth a try for whiting. Sweetlip and Squire are also an option. There is also a spot just south of myora in the middle of the channel which I have caught 4kg cod, 2kg blue maori cod and 2kg maori cod. Plenty of blackall or mother in law fish around this spot. Pm me if you want to know more.

Have fished this area many tides, Andrew is right tide is very important with a strong tide you cant get anywhere near the bottom. This spot always produces legal size fish and a lot of fish we havent had heavy enough gear to bring in. We catch cod, morwong, squire, sweetlip, parrot etc. Have had most success using soft plastics bouncing them off the bottom. Goes very quiet when a lot of boats turn up so best bet is try a week day. Yeah I have fished Myora itself a lot but it does not seem to fish well with the big crowds around on good weekends. The spot I am really intrested in is north of the Myora anchorage on the Straddy branch of the chanel.
A lot of good country around there.

I thought I recognised the oyster lease markers in the Jew shot a while back. I think it will be worth a bit of a look . I would be quite prepared to put up with some "limited success"

Have a look around these spots. Drift the lines and anchor around or near where the crosses are.
Look for bottom structure where the cross are or deep holes.
Drifting the inside drop off along the old lease staddy side, can bring a fair few susprise.
Species available in Rainbow Spangled/snapper/bream/lizards/jew/doggies/tailor/tuskies (some big suckers) but u need crabs/gold spot cod/and big morwong plus a few others.
Mite see you over there this weekend
    regards

Thanks for the info Webby. Plenty of places to try that are a bit out of the way on a crowded weekend. I will keep an eye out for you. I will be probably in a Niad inflatable or a tinny as the big boat isn't the best fishing platform.

    Thanks again fellas
