I was fishing off Minnie Water (NSW)a few years back. At anchor. 40 mtrs of water. 4.5 mtr tinnie. when a whale came up alongside and sort of just lay there looking at us for a couple of minutes. 10 mtrs away. Grabbed the knife to cut the rope if it got tangled. Had them breach right in front of me on the odd occations but never too close. If you and a whale would be an accident on both sides (but don't get between a mother and her calf). U prob. got a bigger chance of getting hit by a cargo ship or a F250 on the way to the ramp.
