Re: Jewwies on PLastics
mate any of the large shad types have worked for me and also some large feather head jigs(mainly newcastle harbour though for hese) but they all work.....have a couple of favourites shads in any gunmetal/greys and bloodworm colours IMO....give it a go.....as far as tackle goes try to fish as light as possible...me is 8kg off a threadline or overhead (both speedmaster shimanos).....no leader straight through..
good luck mate.

Re: Jewwies on PLastics
I have caught a few on large grubs in pearl white, jigging them vertical along rockwalls. Most of the hits seem to come on the drop so keep a good watch on the line where it enters the water or be aware how far it has to drop back to the bottom.Sometimes you might just feel a tap.

Re: Jewwies on PLastics
heheh, yes DC that was a good day indeed. [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]. As far as tackle go's i prefer small baitcaster to jig with, allows me to keep in touch with how much line i have out a lot better (personal thing). Was using calcutta type reel, 4-6kg rod and 6kg braid.
I was using 4" squidgy shads at the time i caught those. Good strong hooks 5'0 size.
On that particular day the eddy on the end of the seaway wall was really going well during the run out tide. The boat was sitting in the eddy for ages allowing me to concentrate on the fishing. That spot seems to change a lot with tide / wind and swell making it either very hard or very easy to fish. Also mid week there are very rarely too many boats around. Weekends are a mission.
Plenty of pause between your plastic jigs (i like to give 2-3 sharp jigs off the bottom, then a good pause and jig again) seems to be a key.
Get out there on a weekday, keep the size of your plastic up and make sure jig head is heavy enough to get you to the bottom, and that will be a good start.
Lots of ppl say fish the start of the run in, but i had success during the run out, so i'm not decided on that one yet.
