    Hello Mad :-)

Just read through the reports archives and you will get an idea of what's going on where.

Whereabouts will you be living as access and ramps may make a lot of difference to what you want to do. The ramps round Brizzy make pretty much everywhere in the Bay accessible but how you will get offshore is pretty much up to you.

Some guys go through the S Passage (I've yet to try it), some motor up to Bribie and go through the tip of Moreton and some prefer to go down to the Gold Coast and out through the seaway (as I do).

Last time I tried from Bribie (when I was greener than I am now) I got beat up a helluva a lot and it was flat calm when I left. Seems I passed over some shallows (Slamander Bank)when a king tide was running and that's put me off for life as looking at the chart you can see how shallow it gets when travelling as the crow flies. You need to learn the bay and the beacons well as it can be pretty naughty out there even on a nice day, particularly when wind against tide.

Launching from Shorncliffe and motoring across to Moreton and round, seems the better option for me. If I'm going to Curtin I might as well do the extra yards on a good forecast and try for offshore from there.

Anyway, I'm one of the least knowledgeable here and even if I had the knowledge, I probably wouldn't have the balls that some of these guys here have got. I've been caught out a few times on the Bay and when you've got a squawking deckie on board it tends to unnerve you a bit :-)

Anyway, welcome to the group and as I say, look up the reports archives, and prerhpas be more specific with where you will be launching etc and you'll get an idea of what your future may hold.

    cheers

Give a man a fish, he'll eat it and fall asleep.

Teach a man to fish and he'll endanger an entire species

Hello mad-fisherman,try around the close islands, mud, green peel, also at the artifical reefs don't go thru the south passage bar unless u follow a mate out(it's running at 9.5metre's on thurday) and back we lost 2 or 3 boat's on it a few weeks ago and it was only 1.5 metre's.just look for the other boats and sqeeze in.

winter you have to fight for your fish, I have hardly gone out ....Unless you want reefies which have been on the chew . Frankly though i am not a bait fisherman ...hate a stinky boat to clean !
Summer , find a bit of inshore reef ( Point Lookout / Cape Moreton / Hutchies / Tweed ), put a couple of big minnows out and troll around ...shouldn't take long to hear a screaming ratchet ..thats about as simple as you can get .

I normally hit Mooloolaba 8 mile ., the cape reefs , or head over south passage and hit the reefs and the waverider for dollies .theres a lot of good water to cruise out there when it warms up !!

PS , check your maps of inshore reefs fo GNS zoning ......
