whats the catch like down the coast the greenbacks are on the run i was thinking of heading down next week to the seaway or the northen beach near sea world for a fish whats going down. are thay on!
I was on the 12fathom getting molested by Juvenile Tailor last night, thats not a long way out but I'm not sure if you then classfy this as on or off so I'm not voting!! They were all in the 25-35 range.
Excuse my ignorance, but what type of Tailor is a greenback? Can I see a photo somewhere? Got a link?
I caught a 55cm Tailor in the Seaway mouth a few weeks ago, but it was silver, didnt have a greenback. I assume a greenback is what it sounds like.
I was about 100-200 m East off the north wall, floating a pilchard on a rising tide.
fellas, big tailor ( green backs ) 2.5 Kg + are around all year round, ya just got to find the right beach formations for them come into feed. they are a more solitary fish when they get bigger so numbers are always few.
gogecko, yep big tailor are known as green backs due to their dark green tinge on there backs. a 55 cm speciem isnt a bad tailor and would probly be around the 2KG mark, when ya start catching 3,4,and 5KG tailor you'll notice a more pronunced "Green Back "
it's not a defined green stripe, but more of a gradual colouration. say, if ya looking from a birds eye view the fish would look green, if you were below the fish it would look silver. camaflouge from preditors
