i'm of to nw on the 17th & am of to a good start with Bugman giving me the heads up. If anyone has any info they'd like to share would be greatly appreciated. were fishing fitzroy lagoon on the way up to nw.

Watch out for giant centipedes when packing up the tents... if still open for fishing we caught plenty of trout around fishtails... just look at a map of the island and you will find it. we also used one of those under water viewing contramptions that look like a big witch's hat...unreal being able to spot a fish and throw ur bait at it....we used medium sized alveys so we had the ability to cast at different bommies. Also take a few giant squid jigs, my uncle had caught a few on all trips and the tubes will fit your arm up to the elbow. we also got plenty of good sized red throats about half way between fish tails and the fishing prohibited sign... good luck with your fishing, hope you get better weather than we did.

We left some nice fish around Douglas shoal, its probably a bit far in tinnies but if you have the size get there its worthwhile.
Also if you get an opportunity have a look at the Blue hole in Broomfield, the weather stop us last year but we will be back.
Dont forget to have a livie off the beach on the top of tide after dark its an interesting experience, we caught trevs sharks and cobia in the lagoon.
If you read Bugmans report before the crash it covered it very well and is surprising how many people share the same experience. Damaged props, days of windy weather but we all agree we want to go back.

we will be going as far as inamincka shoal & will be fishing douglass shoal. size isn't a problem we have 3 small tinnies 4-5metre & a 50ft mothership.
where is the whole in broomfeild reef. what side?

Access is from the n/western side of Bloomfield.
The hole was clearly shown on my plotter, I am not sure of the water depth on the approach but the reef breaks on the sou easterly.
The hole is like bottomless swimming pool in the reef.We couldnt get there last year due to the weather but some of our group really pushed me hard to get there as their prior diving trips were sensational.
You can take a boat (Indugence is 7m plate) into the hole.The 50ft might be a problem.

Was up at Nw between the 18th and the 26th. It was cold wet and windy but still good. When we could fish we got plenty of redthroats and trout, with some spanish mackeral, maori cod, blue maori cod, spangled emporor, hussar and parrot thrown in. The trout in particular were more prevalent in the shallows throwing baits at bommies. I tried throwing some plastics at the same, trolling deep divers between them and shallow divers over the top with nil result.
If you are taking bait, take plenty of squid.
There were also quite a few spaniards around whilst we were there.

what did you get your spaniards on lure, livie, dead bait?
did you det any reds?
did you try as far as innamincka shoal?
where did you mainly fish?

it's fish get it from eating smaller fish(some sort of disease or something like that) of certain reef's. in extreme cases it can kill you. don't know to much, i'm sure someone else will correct me .

The spaniards were taken on lures and dead baits (even got one on a single hook and small bit of squid). Live baits would of worked as i watched two bald bream get snavelled as I released them.
Didn't get any legal reds, the largest was 20mm short. But then I only took the cartopper up and given the conditions we couldn't get too far Split the tinnie in the chop as it was ???
So no I didn't get to innaminka. Maybe next trip, hey Bugman But I have heard some great reports from others that fished there including marlin on poppers.
We only fished the northern reef edge as far as a couple of km's east. But those with the bigger tinnies ran down towards the fishtails and got the better trout. I was really limited by the boat but still it was too be a family holiday so it was good to see the kids get some good quality fish. If I had taken the big boat the family wouldn't have seen me
