well done drew & thanks for an ripper report - I share your excitment - it looked bloody excellent

what was the biggest tailor that pipped ya at the post ?

    chris

ps Fritzy 4 gangs have a tendency to snap with big fish. Also any gang can only grab as deep as the hooks gape. A single hook can pass all the way thru & grab the fish again - something worthwhile in a heavy fight when the first hole opens up.

Looks like you had an awesome time, congratulations on the prizes, you certainly put in the time and effort.
I assume the surf fired up a bit more during the week from the duck pond conditions in the pics? because I find calm periods very difficult to fish and if your catches came from those calm days it makes your already great effort even better in my opinion.
Do you know the winning weights for the other surf species at all?

"stradie looks like its all over for good" ?????? more info please.

    Hey chris,
so you tend to fish with single hooks too?? Do you use wire?? I think i tend to get more regular bites using heavy (100lb leader)?? Agree? Disagree?? Also, how do you guys rig your metal spinners when spinning for tailor? I changed all my raiders over to single 4/0's -much easier to remove for fish release (or keep) but i lost a prize fish on the last jump on Fraser last year?? I now put either 2 * 6/0's of 1*4/0 and 1*6/0 on the back of them. Does this sound like a good idea?? Any info from you surf fishing gurus is awesome!
    Cheers Fritzy

this is Drews thread & he's got some very fresh runs on the board so what's your rig Drew ?

fritzy heres a link to the 2 hook rig I use

    http://www.ausfish.com.au/cgi-ausfis...7238;start=0#0

take the snelled hook off for a single hook rig.

A big tailor will do 100lb mono / jinkai or any other fancy pants mega$++ nylon as quick as a shark - you only have to see the work on a plastic coated nylon trace to see the evidence.

cheers chris, tailor to beat was weighed in on the first night it went 3.2 clean, mine went 3.035 clean. all fish must be weighed gilled and gutted unlike straddie which weigh them whole. his was a big male ( no guts) mine was a big female ( full of guts and full of roe ) would have got him if it had been a big male aswell.

when you gang hooks you are creating a weak point buy opening and closing the eye, so this could also be a cause of them breaking. yep single hooks all the way chris!, that way the can swallow it down and not throw the hooks on ya!

Re: Return from Rainbow Comp!.. with big tailor!

i call it a single hook rig but it uses a small keeper/stinger hook which i normaly snell onto the wire or sometime heatshrink on.

    straddie, dart .630g , bream 1.180Kg , whiting .600g, tailor 3.210Kg flaty 2.090Kg

apparenty, the straddie classic had a limited time it was able to run for( so many years ) before it had to re apply to be run further.... apparently there not allowing it to continue beacuse of complaints and petiontions from the locals about it.

i put 2 x opposed stainless 5/0s but only really use spinners for bait size tailor (choppers) or to bring a school inside if they are wide

i mostly use them for macks - i fish for tailor at night

a 75g raider can fetch fish from NZ

    Oh yeah,
i use the 85's with 25 pound X factor - u can chuck em a mile!! Sounds like you use a similar set up to me - will continue as i have been!! Might just have to start fishing for tailor at night too. What sort of tides are your favorties - just after dusk highs?? Thats when we have tended to get our best quality fish. Also have caught some beatuies just before the sun comes up - 4 to 4.30 am.
    Cheers Fritzy

    My god.

This post is like porn for me. Great beach fishing in an ideallic pllace with pictures of a Landrover loaded to the hilt with rods.

It does NOT get any better gentlemen.

    I need to site down.

    Awsome stuff Drew.
