    Fishing Tutor Wanted :)

Wen't out for a boat ride today, no point saying I went fishing cause all I managed to hook was an undersized flathead. I've tried both bait and plastics in quite a few parts of the bay (Mud, Green, Peel, Harrys, Sand Hills, Rous, Wellington Point) with very little success. After nearly 12 months coming home empty handed it doesn't seem to be getting any better.

Is there anyone who catches legal size fish, (grinners don't count), regularly in Moreton Bay who'd be willing to share some of their knowledge. I'd be happy just to see a nice squire landed on the same boat I was on

I'd be willing to pay my way on your rig or take you out on mine.

    Help!

I think Keith Hall from Incredible Charters is running a smaller boat for bay work now as well as his offshore trips. His number should be in the book.
John Gooding from Outlaw Charters is another option.

You know , i have always thought there is a market for a so called fishign tutor ...

How much would people pay for someone to jump on THEIR boat and show em how / where to fish and how to make the most out of their boat and equipment ?

I've been on a few boats that I wish to never venture on again... [smiley=bomb.gif]

But it is a good idea.

There is a guy who does that on Sydney Harbour. At $35 per hour its quite cheap shared between 2 or 3 people. Knows the Harbour inside and is well worth doing.

this old guy said to me this one day at spinnakers sound after i had just gutted a full esky of snapper, pearlys and odds'n'ends.
"i've lived here all my life and never catch a catch like that" he said it in an almost distressed fashion, and then i asked him "so how do you fish for them ?" he started telling me and straight away i'm thinking wow this guy is fishing to heavy. as soon as i started to tell him some of the reasons as to why his methods were outdated and how i fish for them he spoke over the top of me saying something like "nah ive tried that too and it doesnt work", in an almost offended manor.
when he left i just turned and said to me buddy "well its easy to see why he never catches anything he doesn't listen or respect those that are capable of doing the bizz".haha

learning is a process of failure elimination(misapprehension), there are common denominators of sucess. its just a matter of understanding "why it is so". the other thing is to set your sights low first(e.g mud bream) then work up the ladder of species. funny how theres a lot of simularies in fish family types. and i think thats why you see people specialise in a particular species.
the best thing i could try to get across is this- target the mean size fish of your target species not the largest possible of its kind. that way you will learn faster and rack up some form and have more confidence, then you will start to make the right moves.

Damon ><>., Very wise words there mate, specially the bit about quote"Learning is a process of failure elimination" holy cow I wish I could of said something like that , see I even learnt something today ,Jason ><>. You say you have hit the bay over the last 12 months so what you should have is a good knowledge of some of the areas (see your learning curve has started already ),now you need to look very closely at your target species, the best bite times, tides, your bait, berly, rigs, I would target one area even say Wello, be it bait or plastic there are fish there same as Mud, Peel, I can give you a few pointers that may help that have worked for me in the past, we dont always "slay em" every trip either but I'm sure I can get a couple of Squire into your boat if you want to send me a pm,I need to know what/when/how you have been fishing to get some idea of anything you may be missing, I dont profess to being a bay expert but a couple of things that have worked for me I'm only too willing to pass on. Cheers Touchy.><>.

Damon you hit the nail right on the head, too many head into the bay thinking they'll bagout on this this and this, and by the end of the day they come home with zilch. Why?? the majority have not bothered to learn about the species their targeting, habitats etc.
Most who fish the bay fish way too heavy, so leave the tld's at home and drop down a reel or two in size, this also goes for the line department, 8-12kg will stop most thing swimming around the bay in slightly deeper waters, as you move closer to the shallows, gear and lines should be down graded again.
Treat the bay like a big estuary systems and use what gear you would in the estuary in the bay.
You also hear many chastising grinners and rays, well if thats all your catching and as these are mainly bottom dwellers, weight or too much must be ringing the bell.
How many have bothered to learn one particular area, most scoot across or around the bay to different locations, not knowing what structure lies beneath, and expect to catch species that do not venture or live on these structures.
Tides/moon/wind and months of the year play a big part in the learning curve. Too expect a lot in the first 12 months is betting a bit ambitious, but at least its a starter.
