Can someone Help.... I went offshore Mackay the other day and could'nt seem to catch any livies on jigs. Does anyone know patches of live bait that is consistant for catching like co-ordinates for gravel patches etc....
What sort of live bait would you catch in these parts.
Any help would be appreciated....
used to always see plenty of sardines in the harbour itself. Last time I fished out of Mackay we loaded up in two throws of the cast net with some of the biggest sardines you'd ever see.
If your launching from the river there are always heaps of herring around any of the moored boats and pylons.
Not so sure out from the harbour though but I've seen kids catching them on jigs right at the pontoon beside the boat ramp. You might be able to get fusilers or something similar out at the four mile patch. Can't say that I've tried though.
have also seen plenty of bait schools out around flat top and round top too. solid little trevally things - look a great bait - but didn't get anything on them that particular day - but no reason they wouldn't get monstered. (sardines in harbour are a better bet though IMHO)
