LB shark fishing
G'day all
i was thinking of having a crack at some sharks in the raby bay canals and was wondering if anyone has any experience with them and could lend some advice. ie live or strip bait, tuna oil or otherwise for burley/chum. also what size wire to use would be helpful.
thanks, sam

Re: LB shark fishing
They are there , just elusive .
the mouths of the canals on a spring tide , fish 2 hours either side of the high . Tuna oil in a 2 litre bottle and a few holes poked on it on a piece of string will assist with a slick , throwing any chum in will also assist - old carcassess , anything really . Fresh is best with sharks too ...i use whole bully mullet .
I have not chased them around thecanals for a while...summer is definately the best time though .
80lb 7 strand nylon coated will do the job without an issue , for the smaller sharks 40lb single strand will do the job , but i preffer 7 strand for the added flexibility it gives ...helps keep the hook in place .
15 kg mainline will do the job .
here is a pic of a land based shark i got down sydney a while back ...8kg mainline , and 40lb single strand on a whole dead yakka

Re: LB shark fishing
I've been thinking about having a go at this as well but from Skinners Park (Logan River). I rekon it'd be a good time waster Here are my questions:
Do you float the baits under a balloon or let them sink?
A nice live/fresh mullet would be good but would a slab of mactuna do the job?
Fishing from the pontoon, should we cast out into the middle of the river (both burley and bait) or fish near the bank and just drop the burley in close?
What size/type hooks do the the job?
How big do the bastards get?
Cheers
