    Bottom Bashing Fraser Rigs

Hello all, our fraser trip is on the cards and im now preparing rigs and setups to take with us. I read a lot about how handlines outfish rods for trout, so i'm askin the question of everyones favourite bottom bashing setup to take to fraser, i.e, tld 25 with 50pd braid, or 80pd handline etc , also if most favour a patternosta over a running sinker to hook..

    Thanks

When are you going to fraser?

Out at the shelf i would use paternoster, and float baiting rig for the rest although iv'e learned a rig that i'm keen to try for trout.

jase, it depends where you fish, some areas of the banks are that snaggy you can really only use a floater, norm i just drift along the ledges with say a 6 ball above a meter of trace and drop back at times to keep it near the bottom, if you find big parrot on the rubble a heavy dropper would fill the esky pretty quick. its not like fishn at the reef bommies further north for trout where they use hand lines, rods are def the way to go, braid with a long wind on leader works best.

    HI all,

Fished the Gardners, North and South and surrounds a fair bit. If you want quality fish, big bait floaters on Mono are the go. Nothing less than 60 lb on the shallow reef (35 - 50 M). Plenty of good Coronation etc down South and Red Throat Lippers north. You will also get Green Jobies mid water and any variety of the razor gang on livies (Particularly if you fish the North western side of the North Gardners) Red Emp are on the card as are all the other goodies, Parrot, cod, Grassies, Cobia, Spanglies, (Snapper, Not many over 5KG). The list is by no means complete and I am sure you will have a ball. If you are a "Meat fisho", use a dropper rig but don't expect quality unless you have done your homework and are prepared to explore. Remember the shelf is not far out. If you are going to fish dropper for reds on or near the shelf, don't muck around 150 -200 lb mono is the go. Livies are plentiful all over the Coffee rock reef just behind the break at Waddy. Yacka, YT Pike, Slimies (sometimes). Don't forget about Whiting, they go pretty good up there as well.

    Regards

    Glen
