    Moreton North-west beaches

Heading to Moreton on Wednesday for a few days. Plan was to camp/fish the eastern beach but the forecast looks questionable (especially the big swells) so a change of plans is on the cards.
Has anybody fished North Point/YellowPatch/Tailor Bight recently? Any tailor? Any tips?

I've seen reports of tailor, especially off North Point, but I haven't fished up there much at all.

I've also never camped up there ... are there any decent spots?

    Thanks,
    Steve

Mate just got back from Moreton on Sunday. We fished and speared North Point to Bulwer each day and had good catches of flathead, bream and other mixed crap. Couldn't find tailor anywhere, nor did we see any in the water. We were planning on camping at Yellow Patch but the sandflies nearly carried us away when we got out of the 4wd to check out campsites. We ended up camping just south of the cape on the eastern beach.

Bugger all tailor about last week. Like Maria I got back on the weekend also (Saturday). We fished the north point area on Ekka Wednesday (in all the stinkin wind) and caught naff all. If I were you i would consider the area south of Camel rock on the eastern side cause the swell is generally smaller and as you get towards the bottom of the island the SE is almost over your shoulder.

    GOOD LUCK

Thanks for the info guys, much appreciated.

We'll definitely check out the area at the bottom of the eastern beach. Are there any decent campsites down that way? If I recall correctly, the decent campsites stop quite a long way north, maybe 5kms from the bottom.

    Hi Chisel
Was also over on moreton last week. For tailor try down opposite the gun inplacements, and down even futher where first cutting is to go round lagoon. Both were high tide gutters, best fished before sun-up or into evening. Only problem no beach, best to have a camp. There was another high tide gutter up the northern end between blue lagoon camp ground and the cape, fished well for large dart only. North point had small to just legal bream and small choppers , I only fished there 2 mornings early but if the dolphins arrived the fish disappeared.

We fished moreton on the weekend and also found tailor just north of the mirror pool bend... no real size though... also got a lost australian salmon although have heard reports of a few down the goldy.

Well, we ended up camping just south of blue lagoon and fishing the gutter at the south end (near mirapool) each morning and the rocky patches near yellowpatch most afternoons. The rest of the eastern beach was mostly not fishable due to 30kt S/SE winds and 3m swells. The gutter at the bottom looked the goods but didn't get anything for 3 mornings... picked up a couple of nice bream on ganged pillies on the last morning. Yellowpatch was ok for average bream but was mostly pickers. No tailor anywhere. We definitely should have camped nearer the bottom as the mirapool gutter was probably better at high tide but we couldn't get back to camp at high. Next time ...

Hey chisel, it seems tales of woe for everyone over there the last few weeks. As you say there is always next time
