    Gladstone / The Narrows options?

I am heading up to Awoonga next week and am after a backup plan if things are not happening in the Dam. What is The Narrows section like to fish at the moment, what fish are biting and what 'general' areas? I am in a 4mt bass boat so creeks and sheltered areas are the more likely spots we will be looking at. I intend to head back there in Feb next year so will spend at least 1 day there next week just getting a idea of the place.

    Any info appreciated.

If you are stayying at the dam there is no need to drive up to the Narrows. There are a lot of good places in the Toolooa Bends down to the Lilly's, Boyne River, Collosseum. If you are staying in Gladstone then the Calliope River & up the Narrows. It can get very lumpy in the harbour to head up to the Narrows. Have a look on Goggle Earth at the options. There are so many spots & not enough days in the week.
I went to the lilly's last weekend in 25 knot winds and found a nice sheltered creek. We got a flathead 450mm, Bream 270mm and undersized Grunter.

    Good luck

I like the toolooa bends for ease of access, Plenty of fish from there, salmon , barra, grunter, big jacks, Last time I was up there we caught this and a few more, no more than 60 metres from the ramp.

Nice fish Peter. A woman caught a nice Grunter at the rocks right next to the boat ramp Saturday afternoon and I motored 20min's away for next to nothing.

Thanks for that. Hopefully if the fishing gods are kind ( I have sacrificed a virginal chicken to appease them ) the dam will keep us busy but I want a back up option. good news about the jacks, I like to chase those mean buggers. I will get down to the river at some stage as I want to throw in some pots for a crab dinner back at camp on night

If any of you guys want info about awoonga, the boyne river, calliope, southern facing island, southend, or south trees area let me know, I grew up in the area, and worked part time for a few years at the fish hatchery, fished the harbour for years with a 14ft and 21ft boats.
