    Re: The Pin ?????

The 'pin is a generalised term referring to the area proximal to the Jumpinpin Bar, which, as beefaman said, seperates North and South Stradbroke Islands. 'The Pin' can refer to any one of the various channels and creeks meandering through the region.

If ya havn't got a Beacon to Beacon, get one it will help ya miss the myriad of sandbars around the area when you leave from either Jacobs Well or Cabbage Tree. Either that or PM ausfish member 'stubbie' he seems to know where most of the sandbars are

Chillers mate, Don't put *too* much faith in the Beacon to Beacon.......it's a guide only and nothing beats practical experience/observation. The sandbars are always shifting particularly around the Gold Bank area. Keep your eyes peeled and most of them can be seen. Don't pass too close to the beacons and keep mid channel wherever possible. A couple of those beacons were set back on the banks (bank creep) last time I went down there. That said, it's not as hazardous as I am making it sound if you just keep your eyes peeled. Your biggest danger will likely be the Bertrams with the skippers in blue canvas shoes and hat

    cheers
