if I didn't know what a baby tailor looked like before the other day, I sure do now! there were about 10 caught for each yellowtail scad, and 10 yellowtail scad to each indian/rake-gilled mackerel. also caught a few herring??? (sorry, no photo to show which of the 4000 herring species it was). hey, I'm thinking I might take some photos of all the different baitfish I catch next time (?tomorrow?) and post them.
hooked, but didn't quite land, a big longy, but that was it in the predator stakes. I'm hoping for a cobe. will be trying western rocks if weather and time permits tomorrow.
Looks like a yellowtail, but it's not.
Kinda looks like what I call a "banjo fish". I catch them all the time, tastes like crap!! really good bait though stays on the hook perfectly(for small fish). Don't use them for live bait , it dosen't work. Troll them instead!
Its a long-jaw mackerel. They grow to about 30cm but we usually catch them around 15cm long. We catch them around the channel makers off Dampier and use them for live baiting sailfish. They can die quick in a bait tank. They trick is to run the bait pump continuously and no to overstock the tank.
