T'ville Creeks - are they firing?

Heading to my fav coco creek this weekend. Was wondering if anyone else in the T'ville area has been getting some good catches in the creeks.

Last trip I went to Shelly Beach on the rocks and 3 times was busted off on live whiting and herring. Managed to net a few huge mullet though, great for strips on the weekend i think.

    O yeah, GO DA COWBOYS

Mate, I have never really liked Coco creek. Fished it pretty hard and came up empty most times. Try Crocodile creek just around the corner. Those creeks around here that you can't launch directly into seem to produce the goods a bit better.

    Just my 2c

Mate until I bought my first tinnie this year I flogged the creeks around townsville till people said I was crazy. It's all about patience which to me sounds like you have plenty. I have found bluewater creek very good at the right times. i.e 4 days before full moon and 4 days after new moon. Look for tides around the 2.5-2.8m mark as any more will make it tough if you are landbased. I always try and fish the making tides.
Live bait is a very good option for barra or jack so persist with that. Mate everyone has their favourite spots so if Coco creek is yours then fish hard brother
You can also try Althaus creek boat ramp as they get good jack and barra there too.
Croccy creek is good but tough if you are landbased. Can't stress enough to be careful around the creeks especially if you are fishing at night.
Another option is to try under the rollingstone bridge for MJ's as they are getting plenty of big suckers on bait and lures. If you want some good oil on spots go to 727 bait and Tackle on Ingham rd. Top blokes with plenty of good ideas.
    Good luck

    where you located devo?

Of late the days have been getting increasingly warmer and hopefully the water also. I am still chasing me first barra and am really trying to stick it to em everytime I go out. I fish with nothing but live bait now, as I personally feel this is my best chance. I feel like I'm a victim of doing everything right, but choosing the "right" location. Its frustrating knowing I am doing everything in my power, but coming up short of my goal, which has been in motion now for 12mths.

But the by catches I do get I spose do give me confidence. The saying right place, right time, seems to be the ever present theme in my fishing missions.

Even paying a pro in cooktown when i went in mid august for 1/2 day couldn't land me one. I get touched up by something on a lure, missed the hook up and his next cast, he pulls a barra in! But all not lost, i boated my first jack and pulled aboard another 4, 1 huge estuary cod and a queenie in 4 hrs fishing. Can't complain, I can say now that I have landed every estuary species bar barra, mongrels!

But head down, bum up, keep working, its gotta pay off soon.
