I would say its a matter of looking at where the gutters are at the time, as they are always changing. There has been some excellent advice given on this forum by different people. Do a search and you will find some good info.

hey chippy just got back from a week over on straddy and the whitting were very shy. local told me you need a few weeks of nor easters to stir them up. had got time with summer run beach bream up against the rocks on main beach near the surf club the fresh beach worms were picked to pieces by under size dart but as soon as i changed to pippies the result was five nice summer bream and they hit the bait even before i had the slack taken up good fun on cotton thin line with the mullet whipper.

I was over there last weekend in the hurricane style winds camping at Cylinder.

Didn't have the luxury of a 4wd his time so was restricted to where i could fish at Main. Fishing the low tide gutters was pretty ordinary as there was no real formation plus hurricane winds. Used fresh Pipi's for bait... couldn't lose them

Best gutter i saw was actually at cylinder beach... comes right in and u can walk out on a spit... was ok but a bit hard ot fish with the NE tearing in. Got a few bream and tarwhine.

Popped over to the end of the causeway on sunday mid arvo to see the NW kicked in, surf flatter and tide in. Watched a bloke catch 2 nice sized Dart right in front from a small hole - caught on beach worms. Doh!

When i was there in July, the best fishing was between the causeway and point lookout - try likely gutters on the trek south - u will find them. Lots of pipi's on the beach.
    just one more cast........
