Yes
Cast nets
These can be no more than 3.7 metres when measured from the point of attachment of the cord or rope to the rest of the net, to the net leadline or bottom of the lowest pocket of the net, whichever is greater. Mesh size must be no greater than 28mm.

3.7 being 12'2" .....anything over a 12' net can really tire you out and works against you if you cannot consistently open it up .
a lot of my mates stick with 10' nets so they can throw them round a lot longer with better accuracy ....but it is mostly in the technique

yeah i agree billo! i tried a 12' one trip and crikes it put the shoulders to a workout - and i aint a stranger to that. also, once lethargy sets in, technique goes out the door! i find my 9' to be just right for my woosie self! enough spread but nottoo much weight. technique is everything - better off spreading a 6' right than badly casting a twelve! good luck.

Gone from nylon to mono and will never go back. Have just graduated from a pocket cast net to a drawstring and it is even better. 10 ft drop with 1 inch mesh....lethal. Throwing a castnet in the tropics is never easy but fresh bait is your best chance to get a decent fish.

I also agree,I went to a 12 footter & its got so much lead Im only good for about 6 casts, (Im 6' and 95kg ) after that I struggle to get a spread.
Heres a tip though,
Ive just discovered if I reduce the amount of lead I gather in my casting hand to a more comfortable amount, and increase the amount of lead in my trailing hand I get abetter spead and I am able to continue casting for much longer.
(I'm not sure if I explained that well)
Good luck

It is definitely a trade off between how big you want the cast size to be (ie more chance of more bait etc) and how often you want to be able to cast it. I chose the largest possible because I want to have a nice big cast area and then fewer casts. I do however have a smaller net for somr finniky areas like creeks etc.
Get your technique down pat and you'll be right!
I have a little clip of a good technique which won't tire you out too much. It is 770kB so it won't post here, if you (or anyone else would like a look) PM me your e-mail and I will send it to you.
You say fish, I say yes please.
Just a hint.... a drawstring net will open much better than a net with the traditional pockets. I am no castnet throwing guru but my current drawstring net opens much better than any I have had previously. As a result you can buy a drawstring net which maybe a bit smaller(say 9ft) and it will provide a spread comparable to a bigger net with pockets.

hey guys
a few seasons ago i located some vietnamese nets. man these guys know how to make nets. they are 12' drop 20' spread and weigh 6- 10kg depending on how deep the water is. but learning the right technique is an absolute must. after these guys showed me how to cast i can cast a 6 or 7kg net all day no worries.
cheers boys
