Is there a limit on how many rods are allowed in a boat. I have 3 people fishing on the weekend and just wondering if we can have 2 rods each. Are hand lines counted in the number if there is a limit.
Thanks for any info
cheers Karrier

2 per person i think it is and no set lines
Mate pretty sure it is 3 per person, max 2 hooks on each and max total 6 hooks per person.
The wait is finally over.........was worth every minute..........let the RIPTIDE rip..........hell yehhhh
If you are in QLD (which I am assuming you are) here is the link to the DPI on the topic
http://www.dpi.qld.gov.au/fishweb/11416.html
they say :
Recreational fishing gear
Fishing lines
Up to 3 hand lines and rods with up to 6 hooks in total (in any configuration) are permitted. An artificial fly or lure is deemed to be equal to one hook.
Crab pots or dillies
Up to 4 crab pots or dillies (or a combination of pots and dillies) may be used per person.
Now I am not sure if that is 'in use' or on board. I regularly see boats with 2 blokes and about 10 rod combos. So your best bet would be to call up Qld DPI on 13 25 23 and ask.
I usually have 3 rods for myself, 2 in use and a spin rig with a nice slug for anything that boils in that instant.
You say fish, I say yes please.
In Queensland, 3 rods per person in use. You can have as many on board as you like. And as the regs say, 6 hooks in total. I am sure some people here do not even consider it and forget about the 3 in use if you have a ganged floater out. Would be pretty stiff if you accidentally had one or 2 over by accident and got busted, but certainly try to keep it in mind and stay within the regs.

yes the topic came up when we were deciding what to take. It would be stiff to get busted but its about trying to do the right thing. I'm not sure if the subject is given much thought at times especialy the 6 hook max. Thanks for the advice and web site.

A set of gangs (up to six ganged hooks) is considered by the Queensland definitions to be one hook. For instance, you could have three seperate lines out with a single set of gangs on each and you'd be still within the rules. Where more than one hook per line is mentioned, this refers to things like multiple dropper rigs.Originally Posted by Cheech
Also, don't forget the yellow zones - only one line per person, and one hook per line permitted in those.

As for the initial question, it's agood one and I believe you can have as many as you want in the boat. It's how many youuse at any one time that's the key and has been answered. I take a luring outfit with me that I don't baitfish with so have a few on board and this is fine. A pedantic fisheries officer may ping you though if it's got a hook or lure on it so be careful there.
Cheers, Mark.
2 hooks per line? what about a bait jig???
So basically the SUPERNOSTER is a no no
Still it would be nice to bag out on pearlies in 1 drop
Alcohol doesn't agree with me, but i sure do enjoy the argument!!!
