The usual catches are whiting, dart, bream and tarwhine on surf worms in the gutters. You can also get tailor in the surf around dawn or dusk and jew would be a possibility in the gutters at night (although I haven't caught a jew at this location). Mackerel are a possibility in the main channel between Inskip and Fraser (I've been smashed up a couple of times by speedsters taking tailor baits that I couldn't stop), and in September I hooked and fought a tuna on a chrome lure in the surf that I estimated to be at least 25kg. After about 30 minutes the hooks pulled when the fish was visible in the first line of waves.

Been there a few times and caught some pretty good fish, few beacons about 20 minute run from the ramp. anchor up and throw pillies out. some good spotties and big golden trevally.
Plenty of white pointers on the surf beach in the warmer months, best at christmas
As Scott15 said, there are some very big golden trevally that run through there. I have camped there numerous times, but several years ago, I think the current runs fairly hard as well. As for camping, yes it is a great spot, but can get overcrowded during peak times. I have had mates who have found a spot and set up their camper trailers 3 weeks before their tripGet in early I reckon.

There is a lot of rough bottom between the pinnacles and the bar especially in the area a few hundred meters either side of the barge crossing to hook point. Some real big stuff, tuna ,macs and also plenty of those things that like to eat the body and leave the head.

is it worthwhile to fish there land based?
yes, real deep of the beach where the barge lands

Caught a few pike on raiders near the barge landing at New Years a couple of years back,......and I can confirm that it does get VERY crowded there!!! Nice spot though!
