Tag lines for trolling
Just thinking about using the outriggers that came with the boat.
Are tag lines a good idea for trolling lures or is it just another thing to get tangled, go wrong etc.
My outriggers are about 3m long.
Slightly different issue - are outriggers OK for high speed trolling, or is it too hard to set them up to release properly

Re: Tag lines for trolling
They are fine , depending on the clip ...simply adjust the tension ( if adjustable ) so that it won't release quite as easily ....
It is always good to use outriggers when trolling , not a necessity , but the wider and higher jou can set your lures , the bertter the formation and the higher the likelyhood of lifting a fish

Re: Tag lines for trolling
The taglines on your outriggers are ideal for trolling lures. The idea of the tag lines is to decrease the distance and angle of the drop back of your line when it comes out of the rigger. Because its best to set the hook off the strike when trolling lures the use of tag lines becomes an advantage. If you purchase some tag line weights it will prevent the tag lines tangling your line whilest fighting the fish.
On the down rigger if you plan to use it for higher speed trolling I would recommend replacing the cable for heavy braid to eliminate the humming noice cable produces. Naturally the faster you tow your downrigger the higher the water drag on the cable therefore dragging the bomb towards the surface.
