Hi Ausfishers
Does anyone out there know whatever happened to the FAD off Mooloolaba and whether there are plans to replace it?
Cheers

paul, the FAD just disapeard at the end of last summer. maybe it was run over or just up anchored.
it will be replaced soon enough. what you all must remember is that these FADs are organised and deployed by the sunshine coast game fishing club. please fish them with that in mind.....fish them with conservation in mind. they are put there for everyones enjoyment and if they are used properly there will be plenty more in the near future
on a side note the club would really like to know just what is being caught around them. if you do have a day at the FAD please let us know. you can PM me on here with the details or contact the club via the web site

Thanks Jeffo. I agree with you entirely that conservation should be the rule, not the exception. What provoked my interest was a thread earlier this year I think about the SCGFC FAD and some stories around about blokes abusing the privilege and filling their eskies for hours on end.
On the subject of SCGFC, I am also a wannabe game fisho and was interested in learning more about the club, and possibly joining. I fish out of a 5.8m Haines at the moment.

We're always keen for new members! The meetings are held on the first tuesday of each month at the Kawana Waters Hotel. The club scene is a great way to quickly learn the ropes of gamefishing, as it gives you easy access to trips on other boats.
CJ
yeah... what cj said. get along to the meetings. new members are made feel right at home.
check out the club website.
Thanks CJ, Jeffo. Will do. It's my local anyway.

Fish Aggregating Device.
A floating object of some kind, can be naturally occuring such as floating logs, coconuts or man made from plastic, drums. Anything that floats really. Once the algae grows on the FAD, the small fish come into feed on the algae, then the bigger fish move in and then the bigger ones and so on. Eventually you have pretty much a whole ecosystem.
Smilar to an artificial reef except its on the surface and mainly attracts pelagics instead of reef fish as an artifical reef would.
thanks mate now i know
