sandy straits and offshore wide bay

missus, mate and his missus, and i are heading up to the great sandy straits on a house boat for a week and am seeking advice/spot x's etc for the area...............we are keen to get some big trevors on sps or slugs or poppers and know that they frequent the very northern part of fraser but was wondering if you can still get them on the flats below kingfisher and can you wade in the shallows chasing them........also some hot mud crabbing creeks would be great.............we are contemplating taking mates 8m platey up as a 'tender' incase we decide to head out the wide bay bar but as neither of us have ever fished there and fuel will be limited we are also seeking any close in hotspots that may produce some decent fish...........we wont be back up for a fair while so anyones secret spots will be pretty safe if they want to PM me........cheers

Big woody island may be wortha look, just north of kingfisher, cant miss it, big island in the middle between urangan and kingfisher. Good anchorage in northerlies in the lee too (big woody). camp in the bay near kingfisher in the southerlies. can go and cruise around the resort by the way, have a day visitors pool and bar. if ur there, try the kingfisher jetty as well. have been getting some good trevs and queenies being caught around the place lately. there should be crabs up any creek on the west side of fraser.
    cheers
(soz, no gps spots, cause i aint got any. dont need them when landbased #)

Sandy straits is way more big Golden than GT country.. try the rising tide over any yabby banks along the inside of the Island and look for them tailing, try them with a yabby fly! Failing that they're always around the Kingfisher Jetty but they're very very cagey most of the time (got 7 in an hour once casting plugs between the jetty and the sth end of the barge). Cheers!

    Shut Up And Fish,

If you are looking for a feed of reefies, try the ledges on the inside of Fraser, just sound along the the ledges untill you find a good show. Have caught Bluies, Cod, Sweetlip etc. Crabs up any of the creeks on the inside of fraser. Goldens on the flats as the tide rises. Hope you have a fun trip.

    P.S. I wish my tender was 8m.

Hi Shut-up-and fish , We (two couples ) house boat every year for 2 weeks up there and a few weekends from boonaroo and we never fail at ungowa , great for trevally i just use manns5 lures , plenty of mackerall along there as well , try yankee jack creek good for flathead and tailor ,entrance to garys some good cod holes around the moonboom islands great for tailor, the place is endless, Gods country . Ohh there not or favorite spots anymore to busy ,we must see 3 or 4 boats a day upthere so we moved to much quieter spots (ha) where we see no one all day , like i said untaped paradise ,Gods country. If i can i will pm you a picture from this year , cheers and have fun mick.
